Back in October, the official word arrived that cult fantasy adventure drama Xena: Warrior Princess was being considered for a reboot by NBC and original creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Now they’ve found a writer they want to work on the idea, with Lost and The Middleman veteran Javier Grillo-Marxuach aboard.

The original series, a spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journey, continued the stories of Lucy Lawless’ Xena, a former villain seeking redemption for past atrocities by defending the helpless. It ran between 1995 and 2001 and became a big cult sensation.

Though she’s been a big proponent of bringing Xena back, Lawless isn’t directly attached yet, so perhaps Grillo-Marxuach has come up with an idea to tempt her back, though she wouldn't be Xena this time – the plan is to find a new take on the character He’s a veteran of various shows including SeaQuest DSV, Helix, Medium and The 100. It’ll be his job to craft the killer pitch that makes a network or other outlet pick up the new series. Lawless, for her part, already has an idea, albeit a silly one… “I'm pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it's with me or not. I think it'd be funny to have a reboot like Ash Vs. Evil Dead — like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit... Bring Ted Raimi (Joxer) in and maybe Bruce Campbell (Autolycus)." Bruce is probably happier bringing his own cult character back...
