The World's End: New Character Banners

Meet the pub-crawling protagonists...

The World's End, the epic conclusion to Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, is almost upon us, and as it draws ever nearer we have a new selection of rather nifty character banners showing the principal cast of pub-crawlers in all their glory.

Well, we say glory. The witty use of some of the pub names on the planned route to describe the characters is less-than-flattering in a few cases: Simon Pegg's feckless Gary King appears under a mention of The Famous Cock, which might be a compliment but is probably nothing of the sort, while comparing Eddie Marsan's car salesman Peter to The Pickled Newt seems ungenerous. Still, Rosamund Pike's Sam really does look like The Intrepid Fox, so we imagine you can glean a few clues as to everyone's character (and maybe even the plot) from these references. Paddy Considine's architect Steven, Nick Frost's City lawyer Andy, and Martin Freeman's estate agent Oliver also get their own banners here, but come off slightly better in the pub name comparisons.

The World's End sees Pegg's Gary, of course, reuniting his old friends to complete the pub crawl they abandoned years before when they were 18. Returning to their home town, their attempt to paint it red is interrupted by, well, the world's end. Hate it when that happens.

The film was written by Pegg and Wright, and features smaller performances from many actors familiar from previous Cornetto instalments - you can watch out for those in the trailer below. The World's End hits cinemas on July 19 in the UK and August 23 in the US.
