If you were taking bets on which film genre World’s Greatest Dad / God Bless America director Bobcat Goldthwait would tackle next, we’d guess Blair Witch-style found footage horror would probably not be top of your list. You’d be wrong: Willow Creek sends a couple into the woods to look for Bigfoot, and they find more trouble than anything else. The trailer has now emerged online.

Willow Creek finds Jim (Bryce Johnson) and Kelly (Alexie Gilmore) headed into one of California’s sprawling forests to find evidence of Sasquatch. They’re retracing the steps of Bigfoot researchers Patterson and Gimlin, who, in 1967, recorded the most famous film of the legendary monster. Kelly is a sceptic, along for the ride to spend time with her boyfriend between acting gigs. Jim, a believer, hopes to capture footage of his own, so his camera is constantly rolling.

While this promo pitches the micro-budget effort as more straight-laced horror than anything, it’s apparently funnier than you might think, but also boasts some moments of true tension. The movie doesn’t have distribution yet, but will fill a slot in Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival and should hopefully find a home before too long.
