What do you do when you have the likes of Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin in a film? If you’re director Fisher Stevens, it appears you craft a nifty little comedy drama around them. Stand Up Guys has unveiled its first trailer, which you can see above.

Guys sees Val (Pacino) freshly released from the slammer after serving 18 years. He took the fall for his associates, but is out and welcomed back by old pal Doc (Walken). They quickly hook back up with another friend, Hirsch (Arkin) and plan a wild night on the town.

But despite the apparent jollity, a dangerous undercurrent swirls, because their former mob boss has ordered Doc to kill Val, and nothing will be the same again.

We’re hopeful about this one, because it is certainly a better use of Pacino than something like Righteous Kill. Plus, while it’s a comedy, it’s not a wacky family romp…

Stand Up Guys will be out in the US on January 11. There’s no UK date set yet.
