It hit most of South America last year, but the big-screen adaptation of Hanna Barbera's Top Cat is now poised to hit UK screens this summer, offering a big slice of nostalgia for all those '80s kids out there, and a primary-coloured feline-fest for all the younger newcomers. Yes, you heard us right. Top Cat has a film adaptation.

Top Cat, as many of you will remember, or T. C. to close friends, was a Manhattan alley cat always in search of a comfortable, easy life, along with his gang. They included the naive Benny, the devoted Choo-Choo, the dimwit Brain, the laidback Fancy-Fancy and the streetwise Spook.

The gang had occasional run-ins but, more often, a fairly close relationship with policeman, Officer Dibble, and the film's plot sees that cordial situation under threat from a driven new police chief with high-tech methods, who threatens to retire Dibble and clean up the alley once and for all.

Alberto Mar directed the film in both 2D and 3D for Mexico's Anima Studios, and it's already been a massive hit in Mexico. We'll see if it can replicate that success here on June 1.

Meanwhile, surely Dogtanian And The Three Muskerhounds can't be far behind.
