A film in the vein of Traffic, but focused on hard-nut former special-ops team members who turn anti-poaching fighters? Dreamt up by Tom Hardy If it sounds too good to be true, it is – at least in that they won't all be onscreen. But the trio have all agreed to produce the movie at Warner Bros.
The idea originated with Hardy, inspired by friends who swapped war zones and infiltration missions for another type of battle against illegal hunters and poachers in South Africa and elsewhere. But the film will take more of a global approach, looking at everything from the fight to save animals to how the skins and other materials end up in fashion houses.
Currently, none of three thesps involved plans to act in the film, though they may end up taking roles if the script comes together to their liking. While DiCaprio and Maguire are experienced producers, Hardy is just now starting to dip his feet into the work, having set up a biker drama at Warners.
Hardy will next show up on screen in Lawless, which arrives here next week. He’s currently at work on Mad Max: Fury Road. DiCaprio and Maguire will share the screen in The Great Gatsby, which has been moved back to next summer, presumably to allow the tweaking of its 3D into true Jazz Age magnificence. But DiCaprio will also crop up in Django Unchained, out on January 18. Maguire has completed work on Jason Reitman’s** Labor Day** and is attached to star in Z For Zachariah.
