Last month the news broke that Ricky Gervais will be taking the human lead for **The Muppets 2, and it now looks as if his** Invention Of Lying** co-star Tina Fey will be joining him{ =nofollow}. The SNL and 30 Rock star is in "late stage negotiations" according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Details of the film are still under wraps, but we know that Ty Burrell is playing an Interpol agent, suggesting that we're looking at some sort of international Muppet caper. If she signs on, Fey's role will apparently be that of a prison guard from a Russian gulag.

Like Gervais, who has Muppet previous, Fey is no stranger to the most sensational, inspiration, celebrational fuzzballs. 30 Rock, which Fey created, co-writes and leads as Liz Lemon, has frequently featured Muppet gags. A 2009 episode revealed that perky page Kenneth sees the world through a Muppet prism, for example, and there was a cameo last year from a certain Mr Kermit T. Frog himself. In the other direction, there's a Sesame Street 30 *Rocks *sketch{ =nofollow}. See what they did there?

Sadly there's no Jason Segel this time out, but James Bobin, as before, is directing The Muppets 2, and co-writer Nicholas Stoller is also back on screenplay duties. Shooting gets underway in London very shortly. Fey meanwhile, with frequent cohort Amy Poehler, is hosting the Golden Globes next weekend.
