Tilda Swinton is set to star in the film adaptation of We Need To Talk About Kevin, based on the bestselling novel by Lionel Shriver. Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar) is set to direct.

Swinton will play Eva, a smart, educated New York woman who is a reluctant mother to her difficult son Kevin. When he grows up to become a high school killer, she is forced to examine to what extent she bears responsibility for his actions.

The film's producer, Jennifer Fox, worked with Swinton before on Michael Clayton, and is now reteaming with her. There's no word yet on a screenwriter for the film, but given that it's been in development for two years there's probably at least an outline floating about.
