Though he's busy on Pandora with his multiple Avatar sequels, James Cameron has found time to consult on and hand off other projects to directors, including the freshly-arrived Alita: Battle Angel and the next Terminator film, which has Deadpool's Tim Miller handling the action. Now, talking with Yahoo, he's revealed that the new cyborg movie is currently working titled Terminator: Dark Fate.

Aiming to re-set the Terminator universe and wipe the slate clean of everything after Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the new movie has had plenty of input from Cameron, though Miller is the driving force. "Tim’s a very willful and opinionated director, and he’s got his own ideas for the film," he says. "I’m kind of like the Pips — he’s Gladys."

Two of the franchise's icons are back for this one, with Linda Hamilton at last reprising the battle-weary Sarah Connor, who will have been through even more when we meet her once more. "Fans are going to want to see her again, and they’re going to want to see the real Sarah Connor and what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her. It’s hardened her even more, but in a way that made her much stronger," Cameron says. "Maybe less likable, but stronger. And ultimately, she becomes a really important character in passing the baton to the new characters that come in. It’s a very female-centric film, which I’m glad Tim embraced those themes." The new characters include those played by Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes. And then there's the other legacy player...

"I said, ‘I can’t be involved in this film at all if Arnold [Schwarzenegger] is not in it,’” Cameron recalls. Schwarzenegger plays two roles in the movie, one a villain and the other even more of a mystery for now. Get more from Cameron at Yahoo's site, and lean everything you need to know right here.
