Horror maestro Stuart Gordon is eyeing William Hope Hodgeson's classic horror novel The House on the Borderland as his next project, according to Bloody Disgusting.
Hodgeson's creepy tale, first published in 1908, straddles 19th Century and modern horror. It takes place in 1877 in an Irish fishing village, and sees two friends holidaying in a house that borders another dimension, and has pig-like monsters lurking around in the cellar.
It had a strong influence on Lovecraft, so it's no surprise that it would interest Gordon, who has practically built a career around film adaptations of dear old morose HP: the Reanimator series; From Beyond; Dagon; Castle Freak; and Dreams in the Witch House from the Masters of Horror series. He was recently attached to The Thing on the Doorstep, but that seems to have dropped off the radar.
A Borderland film could find itself on rather similar territory to the recently announced Don't Be Afraid of the Dark remake. But Gordon often hits problems getting his projects mounted, so the point may be rather moot. What happened to his projected Reanimator sequel with Herbert West operating on the US president, we should like to know? Watch this space...
