When it comes to Star Wars exclusives, the force is strong with Empire this week. We’ve had a first look at new character Constable Zuvio. We've had Andy Serkis spilling some beans on Supreme Leader Snoke. Today, it’s the turn of John Boyega to offer some insights on The Force Awakens, due out in less than a month.

As part of our special Force Awakens issue – on the shelves next week – we asked Boyega, who plays new hero Finn, about his first experience holding the weapon of a Jedi.

“Man, the lightsaber came in this case,” Boyega told Empire. “The guys brought it out and I’m like, ‘Now’s the moment, now’s the time.’”

“I held it in my hand and I just felt, you know, the clouds open up and the white doves come flying down. It feels very, very good. I hugged it for the whole day. I didn’t allow anyone to hold it but me.”

Did he get to keep it? “No, but we’re working on that..."

Finn was first seen holding the lightsaber in an Instagram teaser, and again in the third trailer was quite, quite brilliant.) As many have pointed out, one particular Jedi has famously wielded that blue lightsaber before: a certain Mr L. Skywalker.

What can it all mean? Keep your comlinks close to Empire Online for more exclusives; look out for more secrets to be revealed in the Empire Force Awakens issue, out on November 26; and prepare yourself for when Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released on December 17 (18 in the US).
