Sly Has A Death Wish

Remaking Bronson's, er, masterpiece?

Sly Has A Death Wish

Sylvester Stallone sure is busy for a pensioner. Last year he stepped back into the ring for the cheesy-but-tasty Rocky Balboa; in the coming months we'll see him get medieval on various terrorist asses in John Rambo (as it's known today). And after he's finished roasting bad guys over an open fire in Malaysia, he'll be headed back to the US to perform the same service there, stepping into Charles Bronson's shoes in a remake of Death Wish.

Yup, that's right - another bad action franchise is being rebooted, but this time it's 1974's Michael Winner effort. Bronson then, and Sly now, plays a husband and father who goes all vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked. So a fresh, new premise for a movie. Great.

Sly would direct as well as starring in the film. The script's set to be written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who wrote T3 and its forthcoming sequel - but of course all Hollywood's writers are on strike as of this morning, so Brancato and Ferris can't start work yet. Assuming that the strike doesn't last too long, production is slated to begin in March. That's the good news - the bad is that they're planning a potential franchise on the back of this remake. And as we all know, the only thing worse than a Death Wish remake is a Death Wish sequel.
