Back in November, it was revealed that Henry Cavill, not content with being the current wearer of Superman’s cape, had formed a production company and picked up a project about a special forces officer called **Stratton. Things have moved on since then and now Simon West will direct the film{ =nofollow}.

Cavill will star in the title role, which finds the military man and his team tracking down a pesky international terrorist. It’s all based on the novels by Duncan Falconer, a pen name for a former Special Boat Services operative who has channelled his experiences into the eight-book series. West will start the cameras whirring this summer in the UK.

“I’ve long wanted to tell a story about the British Special Forces and finally the opportunity has come around. Duncan Falconer’s work is fantastic and we are incredibly fortunate to be working with him so closely. We plan to convert the books to cinema as accurately as possible while keeping them topical. Simon West is a perfect match for this movie with his ability to marry story-telling and action, both of which are essential to do this project justice.”

West most recently directed Jason Statham action drama Wild Card, which hits cinemas here on March 20. He’s also attached to Tolkien & Lewis, about the friendship between the two authors and another take on sci-fi staple The Blob.
