After a few shifts in casting – most notably with Mark Wahlberg dropping out to be replaced as the lead by Bradley Cooper (who was actually the original choice) – David O Russell got cracking on his adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel The Silver Linings Playbook. Now the trailer has arrived at Yahoo and can be seen below.

Cooper plays Pat Solitano, a former teacher who has spent time in an institution battling depression and other emotional issues. Now he’s back out in the world, living with his parents (Jackie Weaver and Robert De Niro) and trying to reconnect with life via the help of pal Danny (Chris Tucker).

But while he’s been focused on reconciling with his ex-wife, a new relationship explodes into his existence as he finds himself drawn to equally troubled neighbour Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence). They’re both unsure what exactly is going on, but it seems to work for them, even if everyone else is concerned.

We saw some footage at Cannes this year and it looks nimble and funny, which the trailer tends to confirm. The Silver Linings Playbook will be out on November 23.
