Scarface Blu-ray Trailer

'Say hello to my little friend!'

It's as quotable as Anchorman, as bloody as a butcher's yard and, what with all that drug trafficking, probably a handy training video for the DEA. That's right, Scarface is back in all its unashamedly over-the-top glory. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, Brian De Palma's crime classic is getting the shiny Blu-ray treatment in time for release later this year.

As the sparkling new trailer reminds us, the only thing half-cocked about Scarface is Tony Montana's still smoking assault rifle. Thanks to Oliver Stone's Faustian screenplay, it's the dark side of the American Dream: a coke-fuelled cautionary tale that plays out in the glare of Miami and the opulence of Columbia's drug palaces.

While it's long since matured into a cult classic, not everyone appreciated the shock and awe of its ultra-violence back in 1983. It was X-rated three times and had a mixed reception with critics. "It wallows in excess and unpleasantness for nearly three hours," grumbled Leonard Maltin, "and offers no new insights except that crime doesn't pay."

For De Palma, who dedicated the film to Howard Hawks and Ben Hecht, the pair behind the 1932 original, Scarface may not have represented the pinnacle of his career, but it's chockful of indelible moments. There are almost too many to chose from. The second most famous shower scene in cinema? The pile of cocaine so big it could have its own base camp? That final, drug-crazed shoot-out?

Once you've seen them, you sure as hell don't forget them. You'll be able to revisit them all in glorious 1080p when Scarface is released in September. In the meantime, share your favourite Montana moment below...
