Sammo Hung to Star In War Monkeys

The great movie martial artist Sammo Hung has signed on to star in War Monkeys, a horror comedy that sounds absolutely demented. In the best possible way, of course.

In a story that has shades of Return Of The Living Dead, Hung will play one of two janitors who find themselves trapped in an underground research facility over the Christmas holiday after they accidentally unleash a group of rabid, military-trained Rhesus monkeys.

The janitors must then do battle with the monkeys – which is where Hung’s martial arts prowess will come in handy.

The movie – which will be produced by Dark Horse Indie, a branch of Dark Horse Films - will be directed by Kevin Munroe, who called the shots on the recent CG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles revamp, TMNT. This time he’ll get to work in live action, although the monkeys themselves will be brought to life via a mixture of techniques.

The script has been written by Cleve Nettles, from a story by Dark Horse Indie producer Chris Patton. Robert Sanchez will also produce, with a start pencilled in for early next year.

And we can't wait - rabid monkeys fighting Sammo Hung? Where do we sign? We'll bring you word on who plays the other janitor as soon as we get it.
