Ryan Reynolds Hearing The Voices

There’s a fine tradition of talking animals in movies, even if they tend to linger on the dark side of the psyche. A Boy And His Dog. Summer Of Sam. Marmaduke. Garfield. Yet they continue to be a prime subject matter for movies and now Ryan Reynolds is eyeing a role in a film a about a guy who hears his pets talking: The Voices.

If he signs, Reynolds would be Jerry Hickfang, an odd bathtub factory worker pining for the attention of a woman who works in the accounts department.

He wins her over, but their relationship takes a turn for the dark and twisted, as Jerry lets his pets – an evil, chatty cat and benevolent talking dog – guide his actions. Can he find salvation?

Paranormal Activity 2 writer Michael R. Perry is behind the script, and Persepolis director Marjane Satrapi is looking to make something very different with this thriller. Assuming the casting comes together, the cameras will be whirring next year.

Reynolds, who popped up for a brief, wordless, funny cameo in Ted, will next be heard in DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods and Turbo. He’ll also appear in ghost cop pic R.I.P.D.
