After he finishes work on horror sequel Hostel 2, once again due to shoot in Prague, Eli Roth has lined up another job. Dimension has hired him to direct, and hopefully adapt, Steven King’s recent phone thriller Cell.

The plot of the novel sees a mysterious pulse sent out to every mobile phone around the world, turning everyone using their phone at that moment into a violent, murderous zombie. Artist Clayton Riddell, in Boston to sell some work, has to get home to Maine and his estranged wife and son before they turn on their phones…

Dimension’s Bob Weinstein told Variety, “The combination of technology and horror is fun high-concept, and Eli will make it right after he finishes Hostel 2.” Yup, sounds like a barrel of laughs, Bob.

Eli hopes to write or co-write the screenplay, but that depends on his having time to do so while working on Hostel 2. We’ll keep you up to date as we hear more.
