The trailer for the Kristen Bell romantic comedy, When In Rome, has gone online over at Yahoo!

The first major movie lead for the former Veronica Mars and Heroes star, When In Rome sees Bell play an unlucky-in-love career girl who goes to Rome for her sister’s wedding. When she manages to mess that up, she visits a fountain, famous for its romantic powers, and takes five coins from it.

Unbeknownst to her, though, the fountain is truly magical, and the five guys whose coins Bell ‘borrowed’, including Will Arnett’s passionate street artist, Jon Heder’s nutso David Blaine-style magician, Dax Shepard’s tragically deluded wannabe model and Josh Duhamel’s sports reporter, follow her to New York, where Bell must work out which one truly loves her. (Hint: It’s Duhamel)

Directed by Mark Steven Johnson, the Disney rom-com certainly represents a change of pace after his superhero movies, Daredevil and Ghost Rider, and looks like one of the more whimsical rom-coms to come along for a while, with a magical element allied to the more typical mechanics of the genre. It looks nicely shot, too.

Although the trailer itself is light on belly laughs, there’s more than enough to suggest that Arnett, Heder and, especially, Shepard will get plenty of moments to shine in their off-the-wall comic relief roles, while the charming Bell and Duhamel get to do the heavy lifting.

One curious note, though: at the end of what’s already a fairly long trailer (the premise alone takes around a minute to set up), there’s a curious and incongruous plug for the number of new songs featured in the movie, from the likes of Jason Mraz. Let’s hope that this doesn’t become common practice with trailers, for it just doesn’t feel right.

When In Rome is out in January in the States – the UK release date has yet to be confirmed, but we expect it around the same time.
