Rome Gets A Woody

It’s been rumoured for some time now that Woody Allen would be continuing his cinematic tour of Europe with a stop in Italy, but the man himself has now confirmed that he’s looking to shoot in Rome this summer.

Talking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via The Hollywood Reporter), Allen chatted up his feelings for the big Euro cities he’s been using as locations for a few years now. “I love these sophisticated cities and it’s fantastic to have the possibility to work there,” he said. “Each time it is for me like a declaration of love for certain places. I try to project my feelings for places that are important to me onto the big screen. I hope to be able to do the same with Rome."

But don’t go expecting the notoriously secretive filmmaker to be naming his cast, revealing the plot or even spilling the title of the movie just yet. That’s not how he rolls: “I’m too superstitious to do that at this stage. I’m still at the screenplay stage, and so it would be silly to say more.”

His most recent effort, Midnight in Paris, which features the likes of Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Marion Cotillard, opens the Cannes Festival in May. He’s heading to Rome on March 26 to play with his New Orleans jazz band, so he’ll likely take the chance to get in a bit of location scouting while he’s there.
