We were beginning to wonder when we would see something from John Hillcoat’s much anticipated new crime thriller Triple 9, but the day – and the violent, Red Band trailer – has arrived, and looks great. Take a look below.
Matt Cook wrote the script, which finds a crew of dirty cops blackmailed by the Russian mob into pulling off a near-impossible heist. In order to distract attention away from their complicated crime, they look to create an “officer down” situation – hence the code number - setting up an unsuspecting rookie (Casey Affleck) to die. He, however, has other ideas, and goes on the attack.
And Affleck is just one element of a cast bursting with talent. Check out that roster: Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot, Clifton Collins Jr…. The list goes on.
We’re almost surprised the film isn’t being retitled to something else given the police phone number connotations over here, but we suppose it still works for the plot. If there are any issues with the trailer, incidentally, try the Twitter version right here.
Triple 9 kicks in the doors of US cinemas on February 19 next year, but hasn’t yet set a UK release date. No fair!
