Usually in horror thrillers when something – a person, an animal, a seemingly bucolic community led by a charismatic sort – appears too good to be true, it is. That’s the case in **The Innkeepers **director Ti West’s latest, The Sacrament, which now has a Red Band trailer out via IGN.
**The Sacrament **follows two Vice Media correspondents as they set out to document their friend's journey to find his missing sister. They travel outside of the United States to an undisclosed location where she welcomes them into the world of "Eden Parish," a self-sustained rural utopia, comprised of nearly two hundred members.
At the centre of this small, religious, socialist community is a mysterious leader known only as "Father." Though it at first appears to be a successful, wonderful place to live, it becomes apparent to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a race to escape with their lives. When oh when will people learn never to make documentaries lest they find themselves in a found footage horror?
Yup, cult alert! It’s the typical set-up: happy farming, growing, singing, living and guitar strumming is soon replaced by panicked running and screaming. Like the journalists and the community, you might be wondering what’s quite so bad about the trailer that it deserves the red band status, but just wait for the final moments.
Following a screening at last year’s London Film Festival, there’s no confirmed date for general UK release yet. US viewers will be able to watch **The Sacrament **via VOD from May 1 and in cinemas from June 6.
