Given our current political climate, getting away from the planet seems like a very good idea right now. Armando Iannucci will be doing just that in a televisual sense with Avenue 5, and he's now added a regular collaborators to the show in the shape of Rebecca Front.
Avenue 5 stars Hugh Laurie as Captain Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control commander of the titular spacecraft. Front, on the other hand, has scored the role of Karen Kelly, a middle-aged American housewife, who boarded Avenue 5 using her sister’s non-transferable ticket. Strong-willed, articulate and likable, Karen finds herself becoming the voice of the passengers, enjoying her newfound power.
That's the most we've learned about the show so far, which is described as a sci-fi comedy set primarily in space, one which also features Suzy Nakamura as Iris Kimura, right-hand woman to the billionaire owner of the Avenue 5.
HBO has ordered a pilot and a set of back-up scripts for the show, and with luck it could be on screens next year.
The Thick Of It veteran Front will be seen in The Aeronauts, due out here in November 2019.
