You may recall that, at the end of November last year, Quentin Tarantino visited the Jay Leno show across the pond, ostensibly to pimp the graphic novel of Django Unchained, and let slip that he’s writing a new Western. He’s clearly been letting people read the work-in-progress script as details are beginning to slowly leak out, including the fact that it’s reportedly called **The Hateful Eight at present.

Of course, that riff on The Magnificent Seven may not stick – QT’s usual practice is to solicit feedback on the drafts he writes and then go back and keep polishing and refining the script. But according to Deadline, the screenplay as it stands now is definitely still a Western (though not a sequel to Django) and the writer/director apparently already has his sights on two potential actors.

One is his current muse, Christoph Waltz, the man he helped win two Oscars for Django and** Inglourious Basterds**, and we’d be far from shocked if they ended up collaborating for a third time. The other is a fellow Django veteran, currently enjoying awards attention: Bruce Dern, who is a Best Actor frontrunner for Nebraska.

Right now, it’s all so much gossip and rumour, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens as Tarantino works on the script and figures out the focus. Still, the idea of watching Dern and Waltz sharing the screen is certainly a tempting one…
