In recent years, Pixar has largely been in the sequel business – bringing us more Incredibles, more Finding Nemo, more Monsters Inc, and with Toy Story 4 just around the corner. But the animation studio has also been outputting great original films like Inside Out and Coco, proving there’s plenty of magic in the studio yet. Well, get ready for another all-new vision from the studio: coming after elf fantasy Onward in 2020 will be Soul, a ‘cosmic’ new big-screen adventure.

A June 2020 release date had been pencilled in for an untitled Pixar film – and we now know that it will involve “a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.” Even more exciting, this one comes from director Pete Docter – the man behind Up and Inside Out. Prepare your tear-ducts everyone.

Soul will come hot on the heels of Onward, which is set in a fantasy world inhabited by elves, trolls, mermaids, and all kinds of other magical creatures. It comes from Monsters University director Dan Scanlon, with a voice cast boasting Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Soul will be released on 19 June 2020.
