Peter Strickland Signs On For Horror
To direct Berberian Sound Studio
Made for the equivalent of loose change and a couple of conkers, Peter Strickland's Katalin Varga was one of the British filmmaking debuts of last year. The Reading-born director will now get the chance to see what he do can with less meagre budgets, according to Screen Daily who report that he's signed on to direct *Berberian Sound Studio, an Italian-set horror film.
Berberian Sound Studio, which tells the story of a sound engineer whose work for an Italian horror studio becomes a terrifying case of life imitating art, will shoot in Italy later this year. Its part English, part Italian-language script shouldn't phase Strickland overly: Katalin Varga was filmed entirely in Hungarian, a language he doesn't speak.
The film is being co-produced by Warp-X and Illuminations Films, and is partly financed by the Uk Film Council's development fund.
