Peter Jackson is getting heavily involved with Microsoft and the Xbox. He’s joining forces with the technological giant to create a new business, Wingnut Interactive.

The company’s first gig will relate to a project Jackson and co are already quite invested in - no, they’re not making an all-action Xbox game out of The Lovely Bones. Jackson will write and produce a spin-off from the Halo movie he’s involved in, scribbling the script alongside regular cohorts Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

"The basic idea is to create a kind of interactive entertainment that's not games as we know it," explained Jackson’s manager Ken Kamins in a statement. "Microsoft and Wingnut are going to attempt to figure out how to articulate that together."

Microsoft are coughing up the cash for both the Halo project and one other commissioned idea that has yet to be announced. So much for the Bill & Melinda Gates charity foundation helping cure cancer, then. Just kidding Bill. Please don’t have us hunted down by Microsoft Terminators.
