After a smattering of teasers, the full-blooded new trailer for the Pet Sematary remake has been given life and clawed its way to the world wide web. The [Stephen King]([https://www.empireonline.com/people/stephen-king/{href='https://www.empireonline.com/people/stephen-king/(' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'} horror story was first adapted for the screen in 1989, and 30 years later it’s been reanimated with a cast including Jason Clarke and John Lithgow. The trailer teases an ultra-scary (and emotional) horror ride, plunging into themes of death, grief, and darkness in the woods – though be warned, if you’re new to this tale of terror, the trailer shows off a fair amount of the story. Pet Sematary (yes, it’s supposed to be spelled that way to mimic the written sign in the film) follows the Creed family, who relocate to a new house in rural Maine. Out at the back of the house is a “charming little landmark”, as mother Rachel (Amy Seimetz) has it – or, for the rest of us, a creepy graveyard for dead pets. Except, it turns out that whatever’s buried in there doesn’t stay dead for long. The book is widely considered to be one of King’s scariest, even by the writer himself – and here it’s in the capable hands of directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, behind 2014’s Starry Eyes.
The film is arriving in a banner year for King fans – not only is Pet Sematary due to stalk cinemas in 2019, but we’re also getting the second half of Andy Muschietti’s It, and the hugely-anticipated Doctor Sleep before the year is out. The release date for Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of King’s Shining sequel has moved forwards considerably, shifting up from an early 2020 release to a new date of November 2019.
