Looks like Russell Crowe and Paul Haggis had a good experience working together on Haggis’ latest thriller, The Next Three Days, because the pair is planning to reunite for**, according to the Heat Vision Blog.
So far, it doesn’t look like it’ll be a complete reunion, since Haggis is only negotiating to write the script for the film, which updates the ‘80s crime series that made the late Edward Woodward a star in the US.
Crowe is inheriting the role of Robert McCall, a former secret agent who prowled Manhattan’s mean streets on the look out for wrongs to avenge. Part of his deal was he’d work for clients gratis, on the condition that they would owe him a favour in future.
While the original series was darker than a lot of the other shows around at the time (hello, The A-Team) The Equalizer developed its own cult following. The film version has been percolating for a few years now, but Crowe has only recently become attached as star and producer.
And there’s still no word on what direction the movie will take (given the disappointing box office of The A-Team, we’re thinking the producers might opt for gritty over warm nostalgia), but Haggis’ name on the script will likely bring it some weight. And you just know that if he likes the screenplay, Crowe will be needling him to take the director’s job.
