Parasite: Black And White Edition

Before everything started going so wrong in 2020, it was all going so right. Which is to say that Bong Joon Ho’s truly exceptional Parasite finally hit UK shores, had a massive box office impact, introduced scores of British cinemagoers to the world of Korean cinema, and Director Bong swept the Oscars. Alas, it was all too good to last. Still, there is more exciting Parasite news – the Bong-approved Black-And-White Edition is getting a UK release later in July coming both to cinemas (where possible) and to the Curzon Home Cinema streaming service.

As its title suggests, Parasite: Black-And-White Edition is the same Best Picture-winning film but in striking monochrome – a fitting stylistic choice for a film so steeped in moral greys. The transfer was overseen by Director Bong himself, and stands alongside the full-colour original – for those who love its Hitchcockian suspense, this version only heightens those comparisons. Watch the trailer exclusively below.

And that’s not all – if you were keeping up with the slew of downright-gorgeous Parasite posters that arrived in the run-up to the film’s release, prepare some extra wall space. There’s a brand new one-sheet for the Black-And-White Edition – and if you look carefully, its composition may be familiar to you.

Yes, it’s an alternative perspective of the ubiquitous colour-edition poster which saw the Parks and Kims gathered outside the luxurious Park family home, this time viewed from way back inside the house. And if you note the large looming figure on the left hand side, anyone who’s seen the film already should have a quick think and realise exactly who they’re looking at there. Neat stuff.

Parasite: Black-And-White Edition is set to arrive in the UK on 24 July – sure to take you back to the heady days of, er, February when everything seemed so optimistic. And if you haven’t seen Parasite yet? Watch either version to see why it came in at #1 on our list of the Best Films Of 2020.
