Paranormal Activity 5 Delayed By A Year

With barely three months until the series' now traditional October release date, you may have noticed that there has been absolutely no news about **Paranormal Activity 5 **yet. This wasn't necessarily unusual: information about part 4 didn't start emerging until late, and the film was still being edited on the morning of its world premiere last autumn. In this case though, the silence is significant. It isn't secrecy: it turns out that Paranormal Activity 5** doesn't exist yet, meaning a gap of another year before we get back to Katie and Hunter and those witches.

The confirmation comes after some erroneous reporting that suggested a January release. Some corrective digging by The Wrap, however, revealed that while there will be some Paranormal Activity at that time, it will actually be an offshoot of the series: the "Latino-targeted" version of the franchise formerly (and possible still) titled The Oxnard Tapes. If that seems odd, splitting off into different markets has actually been part of the series' modus operandi for some time: Japan similarly got its own Paranormal Activity 2 (Tokyo Night) back in 2010.

The core series' part 5 meanwhile, is not yet even at the script stage, with Paramount and producer Jason Blum unable so far to hit on a story they're happy with. So, hey, at least there's some quality control going on.

Nobody is officially commenting, but The Wrap's sources believe that Greg Plotkin, editor of the previous three Paranormals, is likely to direct this time, replacing Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman from parts 3 and 4. But whatever the specifics, with Paranormal Activity 4 still managing to rake in $141m from a $5m budget, rest assured that the haunting will continue eventually.
