Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves is getting set to roll his cameras on the new Twilight Zone movie, but before that happens there's still time for another re-write. Joby Jarrold is the latest writer entrusted with the hallowed property.

According to Variety, Warners were looking for "a sci-fi friendly scribe to get the script into shooting shape." No offense to previous writers Anthony Peckham (Invictus, Sherlock Holmes) and Jason Rothenberg then: that's just the way these things work in Hollywood.

Jarrold previously wrote and directed the spooky Awake, and has a few buzzy projects in the pipeline, notably Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill, and Brian De Palma's The Key Man. Jarrold's job here is to knock several stories into a single coherent narrative, rather than taking the anthology approach traditional to the series so far. So this will be a story about a town in total darkness where everyone looks the same because of plastic surgery, meaning that a family of monsters brought by a comet can blend in seamlessly, while gremlins attack planes and little aliens lay siege to a nearby farm as the end of the world looms. Or something.*

Leonardo DiCaprio is among the producers, since the project is proceeding under his Appian Way banner. There's no firm start date yet, but the film's expected sometime in 2014.

*Hey, that sounds pretty good! We'd totally watch that.
