Things will go bump in the night – and probably the daytime, too – in Sky Living’s The Enfield Haunting. The three-parter, debuting on the channel in early May, dramatises the events of 1977 that, if you’ll forgive us for this, put the “eeeee!” into EN3. Here’s a new trailer to give you a better idea of the dark forces at work.

And those dark forces aren’t limited to the seemingly supernatural phenomena terrifying the Hodgson family, Anyone allergic to beige, corduroy or John Holmes facial hair, might want to raincheck this. The faithful ‘70s milieu has been painstakingly recreated in a series that juxtaposes the dark, supernatural goings-on of Green Street with the sheer, thumping mundanity of north London in the year of strikes, inflation and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.

Timothy Spall and Matthew Macfadyen play the investigating agents whose very presence in the house may stir the evil presence into new levels of malevolence. Juliet Stevenson is a voice of reason as Spall’s wife.

The Enfield Haunting lands on the channel on May 3.
