New International Lone Ranger Trailer

It has become something of a tradition for international versions of trailers to arrive shortly before the new UK/US equivalent promo. So we’d expect to see a new teaser for **The Lone Ranger **before too long. Until it gallops in, take a look at the latest Japanese offering below.

The Lone Ranger adapts the long-running radio and TV character for the big screen, with Johnny Depp and his Pirates director Gore Verbinski giving it a shiny Disney coating of action and adventure.

Our hero is John Reid (Armie Hammer) who is left for dead when his Rangers are attacked. But he’s discovered by Native American scout/warrior Tonto (Depp) who advises him that he has a destiny to bring justice to the increasingly corrupt Old West.

Cue a lot of running around, explosions, Helena Bonham Carter with some dangerous gadgetry and lots and lots of trains. This film is clearly a steam train lover’s delight.

Despite the Japanese narration and subtitles, it’s pretty easy to figure out what’s going on here, and let’s face it: it’s a trailer for a big blockbuster, so you get the action beats and a hint of plot. But this is certainly looking like fun.

William Fichtner, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, Tom Wilkinson, James Frain and Barry Pepper are all in this one, which rides on to our screens on August 9. For those needing a briefing on the Ranger – Lone or otherwise – check out our feature on the man.
