Production, problems, pick-ups... Poo?

New Hobbit Production Blog Walks In

Peter Jackson would like to apologise. He won’t be coming to Comic-Con this year, nor has he had time to put together a sizzle reel for the second and third Hobbit films to send to San Diego. As for actors? No one is available. So there will be little to no presence for the film(s) at the event this year. Still, there’s a new production diary online, so it’s a bad news/good news sort of day.

The latest video, shot during the recent pick-up session, is crammed full of everything we’ve come to expect from a Peter Jackson production blog, with lots of little juicy details about the mammoth effort going into making the movies, plenty of comedy (yes, even poo humour, thanks to Sylvester McCoy’s Radagast) and a few teases of the footage coming our way in The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug and The Hobbit: There And Back Again.

There’s even some bonus Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly, who are clearly being driven insane by the pelvic thrusts needed to stay on a fake horse. Oh, and Luke Evans shows up to explain how he shot for a year during principal photography in the Lake-town set and never fell in the water, only to go wobble straight in to the splashy stuff on his first day of pick-ups.

It’s fun stuff, complemented by a very silly Bloom viral video commemorating his last day of filming. Check that out below, but be warned: horrific earworm contained within.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug is out on December 13, followed by There And Back Again on December 19, 2014. For lots more on the second movie, you need the latest **Empire in your life. Find it at newsagents, bookstores and on the iPad
