The new-look Fright Night, given a modern shake by DreamWorks, promises to give the tail-end of our summer a splash of bloody carnage. Whether it'll mirror hard-to-nail tongue-in-cheek tone of the original or lurch towards altogether darker shades remains to be seen. The trailersuggested (b), while the cocked eyebrows and coy looks in these new banners says (a).
The massed ranks of fandom will be the first to find out. The movie is making its official bow at Comic-Con next month, with the tooled-up quartet - Colin Farrell, Imogen Potts, Anton Yelchin and David Tennant - popping up in San Diego to talk about the movie and hopefully thrash out a correct spelling for the word 'neighbor' 'neighbour'.
Fright Night sees Yelchin reprise William Ragsdale's role as Charley Brewster, a high schooler who notices a series of mysterious disappearances in his home town. His amateur sleuthing, aided by his pal “Evil” Ed Thompson (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), lead him to the door of the charming, charismatic Jerry (Farrell), a vampire that's all done hiding out.
Needless to say, Jerry is deadly and charming in that way that people have when they want to part you from your hemoglobin. Cue stage-magician-turned-vamp-fighter Peter Vincent (David Tennant) and a whole world of bloodshed.
