UPDATE: And there's more! Following yesterday's rooftop shenanigans, we now have the continuation, as Bourne takes to the streets for some motorcycle action. There's still a month until release, so if the clips keep coming at this rate, there won't be much left of The Bourne Legacy by the time it arrives...

...

All eyes are on The Dark Knight Rises this week, but let's not forget that there'll be life after Batman. The blockbuster season continues in August with Total Recall and Expendables 2, and there's also the matter of The Bourne Legacy, with Jeremy Renner inheriting the superspy mantle from Matt Damon. If you needed reminding, here's a new clip to descend on you from above and knock some sense into you.

What we have here is an example of the rooftop action of which the franchise is so fond. Renner is up to something secret, somewhere exotic, before being interrupted by the local fuzz and alerted by an ear-shattering warning from Rachel Weisz. Cue running and jumping, and a nifty downward shimmy in a narrow alleyway, which culminates in said lawmen getting pummelled.

Business very much as usual then, it seems, in case you were worried about the series taking a wrong turn. But don't expect a close adaptation of Eric Van Lustbader's novel (the fourth in the series; Lustbader continued the novels after Robert Ludlum's death). That Bourne Legacy involved Bourne, some Chechen terrorists and a bacteriological weapon, whereas this one is an entirely original screenplay.

"This is not a reboot, it's a whole new chapter," says writer/director Tony Gilroy. "It's an expansion or a reveal. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for The Bourne Legacy, and everyone who got into them will be rewarded for paying attention. I'm building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy. We're showing you the bigger picture, the larger canvas..."

The Bourne Legacy is out on August 13, and is much covered in the current issue of Empire, out now for your iPad in the UK and the US, and on the shelves of your local newsagent as ye olde paper magazine.
