There's so much to absorb in the new trailer for David O. Russell's American Hustle, it's hard to know where to start. Christian Bale channelling '80s De Niro while sporting the Donald Trump of comb-overs and a belly the size of the Machinist? Bradley Cooper's perm? Amy Adam's A Star Is Born Streisand mop? Jeremy Renner's mini-Eraserhead? The sheer, unrestrained Seventies-ness of this movie fills our hearts with joy - and we hope it does yours too. Click below to soak it in.

In case all the period panache doesn't swing it for you, Russell has assembled one heck of a cast to play his '70s morality tale. Bale, Renner and Adam are joined by the director's Silver Linings Playbook team of Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro. There's no sign of the latter in this promo but he's out there somewhere, probably in a bubble perm and flares.

American Hustle finds Bale as Irving Rosenfeld, a Bronx-raised con man who arouses the suspicions of driven FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Cooper). Under threat of prison, DiMaso forces Rosenfeld and his lover/accomplice Sydney (Adams) to work up the Abscam sting, which saw a US senator and five congressmen convicted on corruption charges.

Along for the ride are Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K., Robert De Niro and Michael Peña. American Hustle arrives in US cinemas on December 25 and over here in time for Boxing Day.
