Neveldine On Track For The Vatican Tapes

Directing the horror movie

Mark Neveldine

Usually when you think of director Mark Neveldine, his name is inextricably linked with that of filmmaking partner Brian Taylor, after the pair collaborated on the Crank films, Gamer and Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. But this time, Neveldine is going it alone, switching to full on horror for The Vatican Tapes.

Variety reports that Neveldine will now handle the film, which was originally set up by Man On Wire’s James Marsh.

The film is not based around Pope Benedict’s voicemail message as he retires (rumoured to simply be him singing, “Auf Wiedersehen, dudes!” over and over), but instead concerns the recording of a botched exorcism that gets leaked.

It all sounds a little The Devil Insid**e, but we’re hoping for better (or at least crazier) things from the former Crank man. It would appear that the Neveldine-Taylor partnership is ready for a trial separation, with both men now attached to separate projects – [Brian Taylor is overseeing an adaptation of video game title Twisted Metal**]( Still, we can but hope they’ll reunite for a future joint outing.
