Limitless director Neil Burger already has a few potential movies badgering him for attention. That’s not stopping him from adding another, with Fox Searchlight hiring the filmmaker to make Animal Rescue.

No, it’s not a film that will feature Rolf Harris driving a van around with members of the RPSCA (though we’d watch that); it’s an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s short story.

Lehane himself has written the script, which mixes the story of a man trying to leave his criminal life in the past with a murder, a heist and a rogue pit bull. Frankly, it doesn’t sound like the hero’s all that successful. It’s just the latest Lehane title making its way to the screen, following Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island. It also marks the writer becoming even more involved with the movies based on his work.

Still, it remains to be seen whether this takes priority for Burger, who already has the adaptation of **Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune **and a new take on Bonnie & Clyde sitting in development.
