While veterans Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich carried the main acting load on the first Red, there was some younger blood in the shape of Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker. The sequel already boasts Catherine Zeta-Jones to balance the age gap and now Neal McDonough is in talks to join up.

Willis, Mirren, Freeman and Malkovich are reportedly all returning for the second go-around, which this time will find the Retired-Extremely-Dangerous gang looking for a missing weapon of mass destruction. Before they can find the gadget itself, they must first break the man who created it out of an insane asylum.

We’re not sure what role McDonough will be playing, though we’d say he’s a good shout for the weapons creator. Anthony Hopkins is also aboard this time, playing a villain.

The first film’s writers Jon and Erich Hoeber are back on scripting duty, though Dean Parisot is taking over directing chores from Robert Schwentke.

McDonough did great work this year on TV drama Justified and has lined up another small screen role in Frank Darabont’s LA Noir.
