Mockingjay Officially Split In Two

Given the recent history of film franchises splitting big finale adaptations across two movies, the idea that Lionsgate would do the same for the third Hunger Games tome, Mockingjay, is really not all that surprising. But the company made it officially official today, announcing that the two chunks of the final film will hit on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.

The titles have also been revealed, though if anyone was expecting something clever, think again. Towards the end of 2014 and 15, we can expect The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. If it ain’t broke, we suppose. There’s no word on who might be directing them, especially since Francis Lawrence took over the second film, **Catching Fire, **from Games man Gary Ross.

The last book in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy finds – spoiler alert for those who have yet to read it – Katniss and co finally sparking the big rebellion against President Snow and the forces of the Capitol. The stakes are raised higher than ever and not everyone will get out with their lives or their sanity intact.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, meanwhile, will land on November 22 next year. We just hope Jennifer Lawrence and the rest of the cast are ready for the extra workload…
