Elton John had Bernard Taupin, Josiah Bartlet had Sam Seaborn and Toby Zeigler, and now to the list of star/writer double-acts we can add Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie, with the Valkyrie co-writer confirmed to pen another likely Cruise star vehicle, New Regency's Flying Tigers.

Never the most prolific writer, McQuarrie has hit something of a purple patch through his partnership with Cruise, with Flying Tigers his fourth ongoing collaboration with the actor. McQuarrie is also underway on scripts for **The Monster Of Florence **and The Champions (as reported by Empire last month), as well as espionage thriller The Tourist, another likely Cruise starrer.

Flying Tigers will tell the story of a squadron of volunteer pilots helping the Chinese fight the Japanese before America entered the war, promising to send the Top Gun star back into the skies in a reboot of the John Wayne propaganda flick, and no doubt selling bucketloads of Ray-Ban Aviators in the process.
