With this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego just a couple of weeks away, the bigger announcements about what movies and TV shows we can expect to see pimped at the event are beginning to roll out. Marvel has staked its flag on Saturday July 20, promising a look at Thor: The Dark World and **Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

But this being Marvel, we can expect a few more surprises than just some of the cast from both of the two new movies. The company has a habit of making surprise announcements, in the past having Joss Whedon introduce his full Avengers line-up and Edgar Wright hopping up on stage last year to premiere his test reel for Ant-Man.

With the size-shifting hero already confirmed for 2015, and Wright scheduled to hit the Con to talk up The World’s End, we figure he might be back to say more about Ant-Man’s development status. Since Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has discussed Doctor Strange as a likely Phase Three film, we wouldn’t be surprised if that and other projects were formally confirmed.

Before all of that hoopla, however, Sony is getting in on the action, with a panel planned for Friday July 19. The LA Times reports that the studio will present The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with actors Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan there to answer questions and generally sell the movie.

That’s not all: Sony also has the rebooted RoboCop, with Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish and Samuel L. Jackson all expected to join director Jose Padilha on stage. The presentation will be tasked with generating some more positive buzz for a film that has struggled with fans. In addition to the behemoths, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 and The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones will appear.

Comic-Con this year runs from July 18 until July 21, with the usual crowds and hype expected. Empire will be there to bring you all the news as it happens, so keep an eye on the site during that time.
