Mark Wahlberg On For Transformers 4?

Are recent Mark Walhberg/Transformers 4 casting rumours a classic case of two and two making seventeen or is there more to them? Well, according to Michael Bay, it's the latter. The director has taken to his official site to explode - not literally - rumours that the double Oscar-nominated actor will be battling 'bots in the next instalment of his franchise.

While Bay's denials are worth taking with a pinch of salt - remember how Megatron wouldn't be appearing in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen?* - there's no reason to take this at anything other than face value. That said, Walhberg has recently collaborated with Bay on Pain & Gain, the director's bodybuilding drama, and it'd be a surprise if the Hasbro franchise didn't come up in conversation at least once. The prospect of Wahlberg-tron might have to be modified to another, unspecified project the pair are discussing, although Bay is looking for a male lead to replace Shia LaBeouf as humanity's hope amid all the mechanised mayhem. With Ehren Kruger busy writing the so-far untitled Transformers 4, expect movement on casting soon.

For the record, he's the big, evil shiny one.
