When we caught up with Mark Millar recently he gave us a run-through of his increasingly packed slate, including a few pointers on his directorial debut Miracle Park, a low-budget handheld superhero chiller that will tap into the same vein of paranoia as Cloverfield and District 9.
Millar, currently busy with the clapperboard in Scotland, adds another string to his bow with a movie he pitches as "Trainspotting meets X-Men". Although, as his intriguing plot synopsis hints, don't expect mutants fishing drugs out of Glaswegian toilets. "It's a superhero story focusing on a group of animal rights activists who break into a low-level research laboratory to find a mile-long underground base owned and facilitated by the US government. It starts where other superhero movies draw the line.*" *
Expect violence, lots of it, and probably the odd swear word along the way. "Miracle Park is chilling, violent and a totally new experience," says Millar.
Principal photography is scheduled to wrap at the end of October, with post-production running until January. Expect a much closer look when Miracle Park's teaser trailer appears soon after.
