As a writer he's been turning in material of a consistently high standard since he started back in 1988 (on TV's the Wonder Years). Scott Frank was the man behind the pen on Get Shorty, Out Of Sight and Minority Report, and even when the end product was less than on the bullseye (Heaven's Prisoners and Malice, we're looking in your direction) the evidence was always there that the script work was solid. Well ok, maybe Dead Again was a twist too far, but you get our drift. Good news arrives today that Scott is being granted his first shot at direction. He's going to take control of one of his own stories, The Lookout, which concerns itself with a mentally impaired ex-athlete who now works as a cleaner in a bank, and gets talked into being part of a robbery. The story has been on paper since 1997, but it's not like Frank was pulling a Clint Eastwood-with-Unforgiven and held onto it, waiting for the right moment. Far from it
