Well, this was predictable. Whenever a big Hollywood action film so much as thinks to visit London, you know destruction can’t be far behind. And it wasn’t tough to guess what might get it in the neck – or the clock face – first given the title of London Has Fallen. Say buh-bye to Big Ben (or, more accurately, part of the Elizabeth Tower) in this teaser poster.

Following on from 2013’s surprise victor in the White House-in-peril box office arms race, Olympus Has Fallen, the new film heads across the pond to cause trouble here.

Christian Gudegast, Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt are behind the script, which finds Gerard Butler’s Secret Service agent Mike Banning, Aaron Eckhart’s President Benjamin Asher, Angela Bassett’s Secret Service director Lynn Jacobs and Morgan Freeman’s Speaker Allan Trumbull among those who travel to London to attend the funeral of the Prime Minister.

But when it turns out that there’s a dastardly plot afoot to assassinate world leaders, Mike will have to team up with a distrustful MI6 agent (Charlotte Riley), prove that the fictional Secret Service is not as slipshod as the real one at the moment, and save the day. Radha Mitchell is back as Leah Banning, with Jackie Earle Haley, Melissa Leo, Robert Forster and Colin Salmon all aboard.

London Has Fallen will be out in whichever of the capital’s cinemas are left standing and around the country here on October 2.
