Leterrier Taking On Y: The Last Man?
Titans director has shown interest...
Y: The Last Man is one of those beloved graphic novel adaptations that is optioned with great fanfare, has solid talent attached and then… vanishes into the development mists, with only the occasional hooting call of rumour to be heard from the wispy depths. But now it appears that Clash Of The Titans director Louis Leterrier might be interested in taking it on.
Y’s history, of course, has been largely with Eagle eye director DJ Caruso and star Shia LaBeouf, who have talked to varying degrees over the last couple of years about wanting to make the film with New Line. But it’s seemingly been lost in a mire of scheduling issues, a difficult scripting process and, if Latino Review’s new report is to be believed, studio disagreement.
For while certain sections within New Line were gung ho for the project, more senior executives preferred to stay with proven genres like rom-coms.
Leterrier’s interest means it could pick up a little more traction, but he appears to be a man in demand now that Clash is about to arrive. He’s been listed as on Marvel’s possible list of Avengers directors, but of course how his future shakes out will probably depend on how his take on the Titans works at the box office.
As for Brian K Vaughn’s brilliant series? Chances are it’ll wait a little longer…
