Laurence Mark To Produce Dream On

It's another dance movie. Goody.

If it’s a day ending in a ‘y’, then yet another frickin’ dance movie must be going into production. And, since our charts show us that this is a Wednesday, and Wednesday ends with a ‘y’, it comes as no surprise to learn that Mandate Pictures have decided to add Dream On to the list of 728 dance movies currently clogging Hollywood’s pipeline. We’re so excited we may well perform a celebratory foxtrot.

We’d be genuinely excited if this were, somehow, a dance-flecked reimagining of the great HBO series of the same name, starring Brian Benben. Sadly, though, this Dream On is yet another story of a teenager who learns the beauty of being yourself through the medium of dance, in this case a would-be Olympic gymnast who blah blah blahs via the underground hip-hop scene in Atlanta.

The movie will be produced by Laurence Mark, who produced **I, Robot **and Dreamgirls, but who has form in this area with last year’s Centre Stage: Turn It Up. And we can all remember that one, for its brilliance is seared into our brains. Let’s hope that Dream On can scale those heady heights.

Mark will produce along with Rachel Miller, who conceived the idea, presumably by following Family Guy’s lead and employing some intelligent manatees and a variety of topic balls. Jason Ubaldi wrote the script, and we’re not going to add anything to that sentence.
